The Infiniti QX80, while generally very capable, is one of the oldest vehicles currently available on the new car market in the United States. It is refreshed with new technology for the 2022 model year (see related link below) but it’s showing its age and dated bones. The new QX80 is currently in development and will have a much more important role than simply replacing its predecessor. The brand’s flagship SUV will introduce a new design language for the automaker, both inside and out.
This information was revealed by Infiniti Chairman Peyman Kargar, who was appointed boss of Infiniti’s global brand in June 2020. Recently, he chatted with Automotive News and emphasized that the new QX80 will herald a new era for premium manufacturers. This would increase the model’s performance specs to distance it from the Nissan Armada, with which it shares its basics and technology. Infiniti’s main goal was to launch the new QX80 as a more adequate direct rival to luxury SUVs such as the Land Rover Range Rover and Lexus LX.

The new QX80 will be the first of several next-generation Infiniti products that will have to reboot the brand image, both visually and in terms of quality and performance. This means a new corporate face will be embedded in the upcoming model, which will debut in its flagship SUV. This new visual identity assistance will become a new dealer identity for retail stores, although it is only a recommendation and not a complete redesign of existing facilities.
The next big step in Infiniti’s reboot plans will come in 2025 when the marque will launch its first fully electric vehicle. It is expected to be the ideological successor to the Q50 sedan but with a zero-emissions powertrain. A small crossover EV could also be launched soon after the electric sedan, as well as a compact SUV coupe similar in size to the QX60. Ultimately, Infiniti wants the majority, but not all, of its worldwide sales to come from battery-powered electric vehicles by the end of the decade.
