A true rally icon, the Subaru Impreza 22B is getting a makeover as Prodrive has unveiled the P25 as a tribute to the legend. The ultra-limited special edition celebrates its dynamic debut this week at the Goodwood Festival of Speed where the famous restomod climbs the hill to the delight of the public. Beneath the familiar skin is the original two-door WRX chassis, but everything else has been revamped.
The flat-four boxer engine sounds great, and produces more than 400 horsepower and ample 600 Newton-meters (443 pound-feet) of torque in a car that weighs less than 1,200 kilograms (2,645 pounds). The hill-climbing trails are obviously too short to take full advantage of the P25’s capabilities, but Prodrive says its road-legal WRC engine has supercar acceleration rates by sprinting to 62 mph (100 km/h) in less than three and a half seconds.

Most of the body panels are made of carbon composite to reduce weight while the engine is linked to a six-speed semi-automatic transmission featuring a launch control system derived from a WRC-spec rally car. Needless to say, the P25 is all-wheel drive and is equipped with lots of high-end goodies that vary from Garrett turbos and Bilstein dampers to AP Racing brakes and an adjustable active center differential that features a front and rear limited-slip differential.
As a refresher, Prodrive converted 25 cars for a tantalizing £460,000 ($564,000), and that’s before the UK value added tax (VAT). The first deliveries to customers are scheduled to begin before the end of the year. Those willing to spend big bucks on the P25 can order a car without a backseat. Instead, a motorsport specialist may install a partial safety enclosure.
