Even before its official debut, the BMW M3 Touring had been making headlines by setting records on famous race tracks. Just this week, BMW claimed the official record for the fastest wagon on the Nürburgring Nordschleife, completing the 12.9-mile circuit with notarized a lap time of 7 minutes 35,060 seconds, about 10 seconds faster than the previous record holder, the Mercedes-AMG E63 S.
The lap record was captured on video with in-cab footage from the BMW M, which you can watch in the video embedded at the top of this page.

As the M3 Touring hasn’t been revealed yet, the track-conquering car is still clad in camouflage. The brown interior looks, along with how the first long-roofed M3 managed the dreaded race track.
BMW has not provided details on the M3 Touring’s powertrain, but is expected to use the same twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-six engine in the sedan. In three boxes, the six bangers produce 503 horsepower (375 kilowatts) and 479 pound-feet (650 Newton-meters) of torque. However, if you want the M3 Touring in manual and tail-happy versions, it may not be available but we’ll find out for sure at launch.
By the way, BMW has officially announced that the first M3 Touring will be debuting at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed. It will climb the Goodwood hill alongside another important M model, the BMW M4 CSL. The automaker’s participation in the popular hill-climbing event will celebrate the 50th year of the BMW M. Incidentally, this year will also mark the launch of the BMW M2 2023 – the last M car to be powered by a pure internal combustion engine.
The BMW M3 Touring will be unveiled in full on June 23, 2022.
