The relatively new SEAT standalone brand Cupra introduced last year’s concept version of the UrbanRebel which is closer to production. The premiere took place during a special event dubbed “Unstoppable Impulse” in Terramar, Spain. Much less aggressive than the showcar from 2021, this tiny EV has been taken down by 2025 when the road-going model will be released. As you’ve probably heard by now, it will spawn sister models from VW and Skoda.
Last year’s hot hatch concept promised 335 hp of continuous power and a peak of 429 hp while the new UrbanRebel got a more realistic 226 hp. It punches enough power to sprint to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 6.9 seconds while the battery packs power for a maximum of 273 miles (440 kilometers) for the long-range version. It drives the upcoming MEB Small VW Group platform designed for front-wheel drive EVs to replace the Mii Electric, Citigo-e iV and e-up!

Designed and developed in-house in Barcelona, the UrbanRebel measures just 4.03 meters (158.6 inches) in length. It will be assembled at Martorell from 2025 and will be a key model for Cupra’s plans to sell 500,000 cars annually. That would be a huge leap considering that less than 200,000 vehicles have been delivered so far since the brand was founded in 2018.
The car certainly looks attractive and Cupra says the revised concept comes to life after combining 3D printed and 3D knitted manufacturing processes. This sounds expensive for an entry-level EV, so don’t expect the next production version to look fancy. Nevertheless, the 2022 version of the UrbanRebel leads us to believe that the road car will be a big step up from the bland Mii Electric.
These three new affordable EVs from the VW Group will cost as low as €20,000 once they all come out in the middle of the decade. VW’s core brand completely redesigned the ID. The concept lives on from 2021 while Skoda has only released design sketches showing the crossover-esque side profile of its entry-level electric car.
