VW ID. Buzz Obi-Wan Kenobi Shows Its Dark And Light Sides For Star Wars Celebration

VW started taking orders for ID. Buzz a few weeks ago but has already given the much-vaunted a special version of the electric bus. Granted, you can’t buy Obi-Wan Kenobi because they’re just a pair part of the Star Wars Celebration in Anaheim, CA. This is the first time VW has teamed up with designer Lucasfilm, creating a Light Side Edition based on a passenger model coupled with a Dark Side Edition starting as cargo.

VW launched the duo today to coincide with the release of the Star Wars series “Obi-Wan Kenobi” on Disney+. These two unique electric vans are part of a wider campaign as ID. Buzz has been featured in the 60-second clip, co-starring R2-D2 and C-3PO. According to the automaker’s design boss Jozef Kaba, this collaboration is about “putting two icons together.” Just as the limited Star Wars series connects generations of fans from around the world, VW expects ID Buzz to do the same.

If you haven’t noticed, ID. The Buzz Light Side Edition gets the bottom finished in beige to mimic the color used for the Obi-Wan Kenobi tunic. The glossy chrome surface is a nod to the spaceships and droids featured in Star Wars, while the blue accents depict Obi-Wan’s blue lightsaber. VW designed the bespoke 21-inch alloy wheels and applied the Rebel Alliance logo to the center cap and side windows.

As for the ID. Buzz Dark Side Edition, the cargo van combines a glossy black bottom with a matte top surface. Darth Vader’s lightsaber has been the inspiration for the red sidelines, window surfaces and lights. It gets the same wheel design as the other electric vans, but with a different finish according to the body and the Empire logo for the center cover.

VW featured both at the premiere of “Obi-Wan Kenobi” in which the company’s brand ambassador and star of the series, Ewan McGregor, also participated.
