Dramatic Video Captures Landslide Devouring Cars In Malaysia

When the Universe attacked, there was nothing anyone could do but get out of harm’s way. That’s the good news in this shocking video from Malaysia – there were no reports of injuries from this massive landslide. But five cars were swallowed up by the earth in the blink of an eye.

The landslide occurred on January 25 in the town of Seri Kembangan, which is just south of Kuala Lumpur. Reports from the region said heavy rains inundated the area, causing drains to burst. Water erodes the ground next to the road, and like this TikTok video from Weather channel shows, the consequences are dramatic.

However, it was not an unexpected collapse. There were already cracks in the road before the leak, and after the line failure, the cracks widened. People began moving cars from the area in preparation for a possible collapse; reports said as many as 10 cars were in the danger zone, and we saw five still parked near the edge when the landslide occurred. A driver escaped from a ravine, driving what looked like an old Hyundai Tiburon seconds before the ground collapsed. The man jumped out of the car just in time to see the other three people fall into the pit.

This certainly isn’t the first time we’ve seen sinkholes and landslide-carrying vehicles, although they usually happen without warning. Last year a sinkhole the size of a tiny car swallowed an entire hatchback in India, but arguably the most famous incident was the sinkhole that opened under the National Corvette Museum in 2014, sending eight historic ‘Vettes to their ruin.

As for Seri Kembangan, the damage to the area is being studied and repairs are being planned.
