BMW M240i Faces Audi RS3 And AMG A45 S In Another Drag Race

The new BMW M2 is slated to arrive this year but before that happens, the G42 M240i holds the bulwark as the top spec 2er in the range. But how do you compare it to rivals in its segment such as the Audi RS3 and Mercedes-Benz AMG A45 S in the drag race?

Now, we’ve seen this fight before, even though the Merc over there is the AMG CLA 45 S. However, the A45 S hatchback here has the same power, so this drag race is a rematch of sorts.

At that time, the BMW M240i stood tall against the rest of the Germans. Will this straight line race have the same result this time?

Before watching the video, courtesy of Motorsport Magazine, let’s compare the numbers again. All three cars produce a healthy 369 pound-feet (500 Newton-meters) of torque. The AMG A45 S stands as the most powerful of the bunch despite having the smallest engine, producing 415 horsepower (305 kilowatts).

The Audi RS3 is slightly more powerful than the BMW M240i – 395 hp (291 kW) vs. 382 hp (281 kW) – although it’s important to note that the Audi is the lightest at 3,554 pounds (1,612 kilograms).

With variations in driver skill, transmission and launch speed, the M240i is back in second place in this fight, just like before. The Audi RS3 is still the fastest, while the heaviest AMG A45 S is third.

That said, the upcoming full-fat BMW M2, which should be a real contender here, is a promising model for Bavarians. Reports say that it will have at least 400 hp, with other rumors saying that it will make up to 455 hp (336 kW) in non-Competition form.

Until now, there is no definite date for the arrival of the BMW M2. However, the automaker has officially announced that it will be produced at its San Luis Potosi plant in Mexico, with production starting in late 2022.
