A BMW dealer in the city of Cholet, France, has advertised a preview event for the new generation of the X1 crossover. This includes a teaser image (above) showing the outline of the crossover in the profile.

It’s unclear from this dealer’s Facebook post if this is also the date BMW is planning to launch the new X1 to the general public. Motor1.com contacted BMW for clarification.

A translation of the Facebook post said: “We are delighted to invite you to discover the new BMW X1 exclusively during an amazing preview at our BMW Charrier dealership in Cholet on Monday, 2 May starting at 5:00 pm First in France to find one. !”

The Facebook post doesn’t offer any other details about the X1. However, we have an idea of what to expect after seeing this spy shot models since June 2020.

Judging from the spy shots and renderings, the new X1 has a sharper style than the current model. Like many other recent BMWs, the kidney grille appears larger than the previous model. The teaser image shows there is a more angular shape for the headlights and taillights.

Blurred interior photos hint that the dashboard layout is very similar to that of the 2 Series Active Tourer. This includes screens for instrument and infotainment duties.

Several powertrains will be available for the new X1. At the top of the range, the M35i reportedly shares the engine with the M135i and M235i. This will give it a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 302 horsepower (225 kilowatts) and 450 pound-feet (332 Newton-meters) of torque. The quad exhaust outlet would be a way to identify the X1 at this trim level.

The new generation also comes as the iX1 EV. There are not many details about this variant, such as battery size. Rumors suggest single and dual motor layouts are available.

A plug-in hybrid is also part of the lineup. Like the EV, we don’t know much about it yet.

Even if it turns out that this event in France doesn’t coincide with the full debut of the BMW X1, we can expect to see a new crossover this year. BMW confirmed the arrival of 2022 in 2020.
