The new Nissan Z will enter the Fuji 24-Hour Race at Fuji Speedway on June 4 and 5. Nismo, the automaker’s competition division, will use this as an opportunity to get data on how the models compete on the track.
Two teams of three drivers per car will race Z at Fuji Speedway. Nismo will be campaigning for one, and Max Racing will be handling the other. Both will compete in the ST-Q class for vehicles that do not fit into the other Super Taikyu Series classifications.
Nismo did not provide details on the modifications of these cars to take to the races. The image shows a revised hood with vents on each side. The interior is stripped down, and there’s a full roll cage in the cabin.
The Z Race rides on a Nismo branded eight-spoke wheel in black. The perforated disc brakes appear larger than the cutout on the road version.
At the rear, there are black wings and a small spoiler. The cut looks similar to the one in the car in a recent spy video. Nissan didn’t provide a shot of the rear of this Z, but from the side it looks like there’s a diffuser that’s bigger than a road car.
Nissan recently delayed the launch of the Z in the US and Japan. Now, it won’t arrive until sometime in the summer, rather than the original plan to start sales in June. Prices in Japan start at 5,241,500 ($40,074 at current exchange rates). The highest Proto Spec is priced at 6,966,300 ($53,261).
Prices for the US are not yet available. Rumors suggest that prices for the region start at around $40,000, which is in line with Japanese market figures.
When it arrived, the Z had a twin-turbocharged V6 producing 400 horsepower (298 kilowatts) and 350 pound-feet (475 Newton-meters) of torque. This is enough to reach 60 miles per hour (100 kilometers per hour) in less than five seconds. Buyers can choose a six-speed manual with rev-matching function or a nine-speed automatic.
