The BMW X7 gets a major redesign for the 2023 model year. The large SUV received a new front fascia, slight changes to the rear, and a revamped interior. A new BMWBlog video puts the company’s design boss, Domagoj Dukec, in front of the camera to discuss the various styling changes.
The most significant change at the front is the move to a separate headlight design for 2023. According to Dukec, the split in the headlight design gives BMW more freedom in reimagining the new front end of the X7. Headlights work and must meet certain standards, limiting what designers can do, but daytime running lights are different. They did not limit style too much, and helped BMW build a brand identity by placing more elements of style on the top and functional ones on the bottom.

BMW wanted to make the grille appear smaller than the previous model, but not physically smaller. The changes are all visual, with the new grille being the same size as the previous one, although the new one is lit. The rear receives more subtle changes, such as darkened taillights and new chrome trim placed behind the glass. BMW has also increased the wheel size from 22 inches to 23 for the X7.
Inside, BMW completely revamped the dashboard, replacing the traditional layout with the brand’s large, curved screen. The switch means BMW has fewer buttons than before but dramatically improves technology with the iDrive 8. The X7 has a new instrument panel, new vents, and other changes to accommodate the brand’s latest technology.
The video doesn’t talk about power, but the X7 hybridizes the two SUV powertrains. The base 3.0-liter inline-six now produces 375 horsepower (279 kilowatts) and 383 pound-feet (519 Newton-meters) of torque thanks to the help of the brand’s 48-volt mild hybrid. The twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 gets the same system, but produces the same 523 hp (390 kW) and 553 lb-ft (749 Nm) of torque.
The X7 is a flagship for the brand, and the redesign should make it feel fresh while helping it stand out even more with the redesign. A bold new front fascia, and revamped interior give the SUV interior a modern feel that competitors do too.
