General Motors unveiled the new Corvette Grand Sport and Grand Sport X late last month, bringing back one of the Vette’s most iconic model variants in the process. Positioned between the C8 Stingray and C8 Z06, the C8 Grand Sport is expected to be one of the best-selling cars in the eighth-generation hierarchy. Meanwhile, the electrified Grand Sport

One of the important updates to the Corvette Grand Sport X centers on improving packaging efficiency. GM engineers revised the cooling system layout, which reduced heat buildup in the front storage compartment and slightly increased available cargo space.
As a result, total storage capacity (front and rear trunk combined) now stands at 12.6 cubic feet (356.8 liters), compared to 12.5 cubic feet (355 liters) on the E-Ray. Although the total volume gain is small, improved thermal management will make the front trunk more usable for temperature-sensitive items and everyday storage needs.

The new Grand Sport The electric motor contributes an additional 186 horsepower and 145 pound-feet of torque, bringing total system output to 721 horsepower and 665 pound-feet of torque. The result is electrified all-wheel drive with improved traction and straight-line acceleration. The “X” in the name denotes a Corvette model equipped with electric all-wheel drive (eAWD), aligning the Grand Sport X with the broader C8 naming strategy first introduced by the ZR1X.

In addition to outstanding performance, the Grand Sport X also enhances its hybrid functionality. As discussed previously, the revised Stealth Mode now allows electric-only driving at speeds up to 80 km/h, compared to the E-Ray’s limit of 45 km/h. As before, Shuttle Mode is also included, allowing low-speed electric-only operation limited to 23 mph.
As a reminder, all C8 Corvette variants use the GM Y2 platform, while production takes place at GM’s Bowling Green plant in Kentucky.
