- A small sports car company from England called Marcos is making a comeback.
- The new owner plans to build a new car under the Marcos banner.
- Its first road car will probably debut later this year.
You’ve probably never heard of Marcos. It’s a small British sports car company that’s nearly 70 years old, and, like most niche builders, has had a tough life. The company has filed for bankruptcy several times—but that hurdle may be behind us, as new owners look to once again turn Marcos into a viable car company.
Howard Nash, who now owns Marcos’ rights and assets, plans to return the company to racing and has already built a prototype. It’s called the Mosquito and makes 300 horsepower while weighing about 1,500 pounds. Nash told England Car that the Mosquitoes “handled it beautifully”.
The Mosquito, which was supposed to be Marcos’ testbed, would probably have been his first car, built with a Mini suspension, engine and gearbox. According to Nash, the response to the car has been “so overwhelming,” that the company may turn it into a limited-run race car, very similar to the original Mini Marcos.
Marcos also has plans to create a new car, a road model with a track variant. Nash revealed in interviews that the company owns the rolling chassis that he drives. It’s a mid-engined sports car that weighs about 1,400 lbs, makes about 250 hp, and is “a lot of fun.” It could debut before the end of the year.
The company employs about 46 people, and Nash has more than just a Marcos badge. He went through a legal process to obtain all rights, including the original logo. Marcos can manufacture new parts, offer engineering services, restore old models and supply spare parts. He also has the build records for every car Marco ever built—nearly 4,000.

Motor Pickup: Marcos may be a small British purpose-built sports car company, but Nash appears to have a solid business plan for it. We hope it works—we’d love to see a new version of the Marcos GT someday.
