Tundra TRD Pro Hammer: Toyota Ford Raptor Rival

  • Toyota trademarked the name ‘TRD Hammer’.
  • The truck can have 37-inch tires, long-travel suspension, and wide fenders.
  • The Raptor’s rivals will likely feature tuned versions of the Tundra

It’s hard to believe the Ford F-150 Raptor was launched 16 years ago and is now in its third generation. Since then, Ram introduced the 1500 TRX, its direct competitor, while Chevrolet has the Silverado 1500 ZR2. Toyota hasn’t responded yet, but it may be coming soon.

Toyota recently trademarked the name TRD Hammer, first discovered by Drive. It could be that this is the name for the Tundra which is designed to compete with the Raptor. According to a “friend” of the publication, the pickup will have 37-inch tires and be “badass.” Spy shots show Toyota testing a rugged-looking Tundra with knobby tires, a higher ride height and off-road-style bumpers.

The trademark coincides with a latest survey was sent to owners listing several potential names for a “high-performance truck package” for off-road enthusiasts featuring 37-inch tires, high-clearance bumpers, wide fenders and a “powerful engine.” The TRD Hammer is listed alongside TRD Baja, TRD Quake, TRD Bizurk, and several others. Hammer is the best.

According to Drivethe sourceThe powerful engine under the Hammer’s hood is likely a tuned version of the truck’s twin-turbocharged 3.4-liter V6. It makes 437 horsepower in the i-Force Max hybrid configuration, and increasing its power would put it on par with the regular Ford Raptor and its 450-hp turbocharged 3.5-liter V6.

It’s unclear whether Toyota has plans for a hotter Hammer. The Ram SRT TRX only comes with a supercharged 6.2-liter Hemi V8 that makes 777 hp, while Ford builds the Raptor R with a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 that makes 720 hp.

Motorcycle Pickup1: If Toyota is serious about offering a true Raptor rival, the Hammer looks like it could be a perfect competitor with its 37-inch tires, upgraded suspension, and more powerful engine. We hope it’s successful enough to encourage Toyota to take over the Raptor R and TRX.
