It’s been announced for a long time, but the first official images of the next Golf are still going to attract a lot of attention. After all, we are still talking about the best-selling car in Germany. At this week’s company meeting in Wolfsburg, Volkswagen showed off the Golf 9 in silhouette.
Even in this teaser, it’s clear that the next Golf will be very similar to the current model, and even the previous Golf 7. That means VW design boss Andreas Mindt is taking a similar approach to what we’ve seen on the Polo. There are also production similarities: The internal combustion Golf will be made in Mexico from 2027, while the gas-powered Polo is now starting production in South Africa.
Apparently, VW is no longer pursuing a two-track strategy with completely different cars for petrol and electric power, as was the case with the ID.3. The model will not be replaced until 2028 at the earliest with the ID currently being teased. Golf, which also won’t look much different from a gas-powered Golf. Volkswagen has hinted that the combustion Golf could remain in production for a long time. That could mean a more substantial facelift is coming around the ID. Golf Launch.

A similar strategy has begun to be implemented on the Polo. At the end of April 2026, ID. The Polo will debut in its final form. The prototype already shows a design that is not much different from today’s gas-powered Polo. Traditional styling cues, such as the wide C-pillar, are intended to provide a familiar reference point for the eye.
The same goes for the interior, where VW says they’re not relying too heavily on touchscreens. Later, there will be more real buttons on the steering wheel and center console. Other special ingredients: a selectable retro mode for the digital gauges and a touchscreen styled after the original Golf Mk1. The gimmick can also enter ID. Golf. We will see later. Previously, the production version of the ID was small. Every1 arrives in 2027, possibly as ID. To the top.
