New Ferrari Teaser Appears To Preview 296 GTS, Debuts On April 19

Ferrari’s lineup of supercars will expand later this month when the Italian automaker unveils a new model. The company hasn’t said which model it will reveal, but a single teaser image that Ferrari released suggests that it will be the 296 GTS, the twin brother of the 296 GTB coupe.

The single teaser image doesn’t show much, but it’s enough for us to guess what car Ferrari is planning to debut. The body lines highlighted in the teaser match the intake and rear fender pillars of the 296 GTB. However, the pillar is not connected to anything in the photo because this car is a new convertible. The teaser image also captures the position of the car’s curved rear fender which is clearly visible.

While the Ferrari only teased a small part, the spy shots have captured the entire car, and it won’t look too different from the 296 GTB up front. The 296 GTS will carry the face of the GTB almost unchanged as most of the changes are on the back to accommodate a folding hardtop. Camouflage has hidden the design changes back there, but it appears that Ferrari repositioned the brake lights, shrunk the rear windshield and changed the rear deck design.

The convertible will use the same twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 hybrid engine that produces a combined 818 horsepower (610 kilowatts) and 546 pound-feet (740 Newton-meters) of torque. The 296 GTS should also maintain the coupe’s impressive performance figures, which can hit 62 miles per hour (100 kilometers per hour) in just 2.9 seconds. The 296 GTB can reach 124 mph (200 kph) before hitting 205 mph (330 kph). GTS should be close to those numbers.

Ferrari will reveal the 296 GTS on April 19, according to the Facebook post attached to the teaser, which is well before we see the debut of another Ferrari model this year – the Purosangue. The 296 GTS and Purosangue are very different, but they are both an important part of the company’s plans – electrification and crossover. However, we are excited to see both new cars from the brand.
