It seems that BMW is eager to show us the first M3 Touring – or at least its prototype – because the Bavarian brand has a new teaser with a fast wagon. This takes the form of a 6:30 minute video and takes us to the Nurburgring where the long-roof M3 is currently undergoing tests.
This video is part of the story of the BMW M3 Touring, the BMW mini-series released on Youtube to prepare BMW fans for the official and full debut of the wagon. In the third episode, the company talks about the vehicle’s development process and its testing regime on the world’s most demanding tracks.

From the video, we learn that the same team that developed the standard M3 and M4 are also working on the M3 Touring. These include exterior and interior designers, engine and gearbox engineers, electrical and electronics specialists, suspension specialists, and others. The quality control department then inspects the vehicle to ensure it conforms to BMW’s high quality standards.
But who is BMW doing the M3 Touring for? “First and foremost for ourselves. And for people who appreciate a car like this, the combination of high performance and versatility, spaciousness, that you don’t find in a regular sedan or coupe,” Hagen Franke of the development team explains in the video.
BMW will build the M3 Touring in Munich where the M3 sedan and Touring 3 Series are also assembled. This fact makes the manufacturer’s task easier, but it will take quite a while for the tools and production line to be ready to start working on the speed wagons.
And last but not least, the video talks about testing the M3 Touring at the Nurburgring. As the fastest 3 Series based car, BMW wants to make sure every part of the chassis and aerodynamics functions as it should. After all, the engine and transmission were proven, but new components needed to be tested and the German track was the place where prototypes could reach “much” speeds of more than 155 miles per hour (250 kilometers per hour).
