See Ford Bronco Crawl Moab With Range Rover Sport, Wrangler 4xE

For an SUV to prove its worth, it has to be able to take the trail. Modern SUVs pack the advanced features and trick differences that manufacturers like to talk about in the press junkets. But if it can’t perform, it won’t cut the mustard for a true off-roader.

The Ford Bronco, Jeep Wrangler, and Range Rover Sport are some of the most capable 4x4s available today. To see what the SUV did, a group of off-roaders brought the models to Moab. To be specific, the driver uses the new Bronco, the first-generation Range Rover Sport, and the electrified Wrangler 4xe. So how does each SUV perform?

Starting with the Range Rover Sport, it fared quite well despite being the oldest of the three. These also appear to be stock in addition to all-terrain tires. The Range Rover Sport climbs the cliff with just the slightest trepidation, letting its electronics help it get out of a tough spot. British SUVs also have enough power to overcome the challenges. It’s only let down by the long ground clearance and overhangs.

Moving on to the Wrangler 4xe, its trip up the mountain should dispel any doubts about its off-road capabilities. If anything, the electric motor’s torque greatly benefits the Jeep on steep sections of hiking trails. Unlike the Range Rover Sport, the Wrangler’s short overhang means there’s less fear of damage during steep climbs. Surprisingly, it also continued to scratch the middle. He even went centered high on one of the hurdles, showing that he has the lowest breakover angle of the three.

As for the Bronco, it was one that made it through the day with few snags. Based on the video, it doesn’t scrape as much as the Range Rover Sport or Jeep, and does the more challenging parts as best it can. While it doesn’t climb as easily as the electrified Jeep, the Bronco still overcomes the same hurdles that SUVs face.

The video is not a direct comparison of the three SUVs. Instead, it shows how well these vehicles perform in the environments they are supposed to be in. Sure there were a few scratches and scuffs along the way, but it was great to see this SUV put to the test.
