The latest teaser for the Toyota GR Corolla pokes fun at us. In 2021, the brand started hiding details about the upcoming hot hatch in social media posts and promo videos for other models. This forced us to take a close look at them to catch a glimpse of the much-anticipated model. Now, the automaker has released a clip starring someone obsessively searching for evidence of the newest entry in the GR family.

The ad is titled “The Detective” and opens with a man with wild hair walking into a storage locker. Watch closely as the GR Corolla is speeding away. The interior of the room looks straight out of the stereotypical depiction of a conspiracy theorist. Loud fluorescent light illuminates the space, and the walls have bits of string connecting the pieces of evidence.

Our protagonist is obsessed with the GR Corolla and uses a loupe to scan the image for evidence of the model. In the end, he ripped everything off the wall and begged the universe for a sign. Then, the GR Corolla flashed in the background.

We won’t have to wait long to see the GR Corolla as it debuts on March 31 at 9:30 PM EDT (1:30 GMT on April 1). Expect sales to start before the end of the year.

Judging from the previous teaser, the hot hatch appears to be sporting a 1.6-liter turbocharged three-cylinder G16E-GTS engine that produces 268 horsepower (200 kilowatts). It has the GR-Four all-wheel drive system. A manual gearbox is available, and there’s at least the possibility of an eight-speed automatic, according to rumours.

This means that the GR Corolla’s drivetrain is largely identical to the GR Yaris available in Europe and Japan. The physical footprint is different in that the upcoming hot hatch will be slightly larger and have four doors instead of two.

There is no indication that the GR Corolla will be available as a sedan. All teasers show a model using the Corolla Hatchback as the starting point for this variant.
