First Pre-Production Cadillac Lyriq Rolls Off Assembly Line At Spring Hill


The first pre-production model of the Cadillac Lyriq 2023 has been assembled at the Spring Hill assembly plant in Tennessee.

Mark Reuss, president of Cadillac’s parent company General Motors, shares a photo of the newly built luxury electric crossover in LinkedIn. “Our first pre-production Cadillac Lyriq has launched in Spring Hill, marking a major milestone for the Lyriq program as the team prepares to ship vehicles to customers within months,” Reuss wrote.

The post notes that this pre-production Lyriq was assembled just 15 months after the luxury brand announced a $2 billion investment in Spring Hill to facilitate production of a fully electric vehicle. “Our team has been working tirelessly on Lyriq, bringing the launch up to nine months ahead of schedule and working in parallel to change factories and start production,” said Reuss. “This is an important proof point in our journey to EV leadership as we introduce more high-volume EVs across a variety of price points and lifestyles.”

With full-scale production on the horizon, customers can expect deliveries of the Cadillac Lyriq to begin in a few months. The luxury electric crossover entered the late development stage a few months ago and the test vehicle was recently spied on undergoing over-the-road testing.

The Cadillac Lyriq 2023 uses the all-new BEV3 platform and features rear-wheel drive and a 100.4 kWh Ultium lithium-ion battery pack and a single Ultium Drive motor mounted on the rear axle. Cadillac estimates this arrangement will provide a driving range of 300 miles on a full charge. As of this writing, that’s the only powertrain configuration available, but more options, including all-wheel-drive and more power, are expected in the future.
