We’ve looked at all kinds of Audi Q6 test vehicles in recent months. The camo-wrapped prototype has been patrolling the snowy north, undergoing winter testing. However, this one is a little different. Our sources tell us this is an RS model, packing bigger brakes, cool bodywork, and of course, more power. It also drives down an empty road, reminding us that winter is officially over.
How much more power does the RS model have? That’s actually a tough question to answer, as we haven’t heard much about the standard E-Tron Q6. Oddly enough, the rumors only cover the RS Q6, which can pack up to 600 horsepower (447 kilowatts) of dual motors and a powerful battery pack. The lower-spec version of the Q6 E-Tron will reportedly offer various battery packs for a single-motor or dual-motor layout, but the power output is unknown. In comparison, the smaller Q4 E-Tron starts with 168 hp (125 kW) in a single motor setup with a range-topper using dual motors for 295 hp (220 kW).

Besides power, what else sets the RS Q6 E-Tron apart from its packaging? It’s easy to spot a more aggressive front fascia in this collection of 29 spy photos. It’s also easy to see the brakes being upgraded, although admittedly, the rotors up front might seem a bit small for an RS model. Being an E-Tron, regenerative braking should work in tandem with upgraded brake components, but for those who need further proof of the RS lineage, check out the red calipers.
At the rear, we had a hard time seeing any notes separating the RS from the lower trim. Camouflage wrap still covers the top and bottom of this RS Q6, but we’d expect a difference in the exterior trim. A close look at the side of this prototype shows some additional cladding underneath, though it could be a faux panel designed to throw us off. All the lights look like production specs, including the separate headlight setup that will grace the entire Q6 E-Tron lineup.
It just leaves us with questions about the debut date. The standard Q6 E-Tron still wears the camouflage wrap and will debut later this year. Performance models always come later, so we probably won’t see the RS Q6 E-Tron until 2023.
