Audi won’t return to the Formula 1 grid until the 2026 season. That’s more than three years away, but you can feel it today. Livery Audi made its debut with the announcement that it will return to the racing series available on EA Sports F1 22 video games.
Codemasters is providing the livery with the Podium Pass Series 4 VIP tier, which will be available for gamers to download tomorrow, December 7th. Paul Jeal, game developer F1’s Senior Franchise Director, said the studio is “excited to bring a stunning launch livery” to the game.
Audi announced earlier this year that it would be returning to series racing, supplying engines to Sauber, which currently operates under the Alfa Romeo Racing moniker. The automaker will join the series when F1 implements new regulations that switch combustion engines to fully synthetic fuels. Testing starts in 2025. Audi will buy a stake in the racing team, but specific details about the partnership are still unclear. Audi will develop the engine while Sauber will engineer the car.
The livery that Audi used to announce its return is already quite popular, according to Henrik Wenders, Head of Brand Audi. “Our show car has caused a stir from the start with its striking design and color scheme that is Audi’s signature in motorsport,” he said. “Wherever it was in action, the reaction was very positive.”
We will likely see Audi race cars hit the track for the first time in 2025. The company is currently developing power units at its Neuburg an der Donau facility. The new regulations also require that cars use more electric power, pushing the sport towards sustainability.
F1 22, the latest in the long-running franchise, has been released since July 1. This game is available on Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4 and 5, and PC. The game received generally positive reviews, and is the official racing game for the F1 and F2 championships. In addition to new content added with Latest Podium PassCodemasters also introduced a new Eliminator game mode.
