2023 Mercedes-AMG E63 S Wagon Blows Up Autobahn At 188 MPH

Mercedes-Benz is already developing the next generation E-Class. However, the current model in its hottest configuration – the AMG E63 S – can still impress. Its powerful powertrain and luxury status made it an Autobahn superstar, and the new video features a wagon variant that reaches top speed with great ease.

The wagon’s 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine produces 603 horsepower (450 kilowatts) and 627 pound-feet (850 Newton-meters) of torque. Its 4Matic all-wheel drive keeps it planted on the road as its speeds reach triple-digit territory. Mercedes lists the car’s top speed with the Driver’s Package as 186 miles per hour (300 kilometers per hour).

The left lane of the Autobahn is finally open, allowing drivers to step on the accelerator. The car’s odometer read 188 mph (302 kph), slightly above the official speed but still within expectations. That’s fast for a family car packed with comfortable seats, lots of safety features, and the latest in comfort. This is what the E63 Wagon was made for.

Earlier this year, Mercedes unveiled the E63 S Final Edition as the automaker prepares to launch its next-generation model. This will be the last V8-powered E-Class as the company moves away from large combustion engines and embraces streamlined hybrids and battery electric vehicles. The next AMG E63 will have a battery and an electric motor that assists the combustion engine. It could get the same powertrain found in the new C63 – a 671-hp (493-kW) plug-in hybrid that produces 752 lb-ft (1,019 Nm) of torque.

Mercedes looks set to debut a new E-Class, at least in a more mainstream variant. Recent spy shots show the model missing some camouflage, and the interior looks production-ready even with all the cloth coverings hiding it. There’s little time left for the company to reveal before the end of the year, and an early 2023 debut could happen. The hotter E63 Wagon hybrid won’t be arriving for much longer, so enjoy the video above before the next-gen model arrives. It won’t be the same, but it will be fun.
