About two years ago, Polestar launched the stunning Sila concept as a clue to the company’s future. The EV automaker used a four-door prototype as inspiration for its new concept vehicle, which follows the same design language but applies it to a gorgeous-looking four-seater roadster. O2 the concept debuts today to redefine the “sports roadster for the electric age.”
The simplest and most concise explanation of the Polestar idea is a hard-top sports car built with classic open-top proportions but taking advantage of the latest technological developments in electric mobility. It’s a “hero car for our brand,” explains company CEO Thomas Ingenlath, a car that looks at what can be achieved with Polestar’s current design and technological know-how.

Volvo’s EV arm depicts the O2 as a distinctive roadster in the best traditions of this niche segment. Created to deliver a “lively, light” feeling behind the wheel, the car will deliver an “excited” driving experience thanks to a bonded aluminum platform derived from the Polestar 5 architecture. The minimal roll angle, direct steering and agile electric powertrain are said to be part of Vehicle DNA. Unfortunately, there is no specific output number for the EV powertrain.
O2 not only fun but also friendly to the environment. All soft interior components are made from recycled polyester, including foam, adhesives, 3D knitted fibers and non-woven laminates. Different grades of aluminum, mostly from recycled aluminum, are used throughout the chassis.
Perhaps the coolest feature of the roadster concept is the autonomous cinematic drone integrated behind the O . back seat2. It is designed to be used while the vehicle is moving and flying over it and recording driving scenes. This is possible thanks to a special aerofoil that appears behind the back seat to create a quiet area of negative pressure that allows the drone to take off while the car is moving.
