Bugatti Mistral Roadster Will Reach 261 MPH In High Speed Mode

Bugatti has been very quiet about the ultra-exclusive Mistral since launching the spectacular roadster in August at The Quail during Monterey Car Week. Thankfully, the Chiron-based droptop is making headlines again as the folks from Molsheim have been kind enough to share new details about the final W16 type. Just like other previous 8.0 liter quad-turbo monsters, this hypercar with unlimited headroom has a dedicated top speed mode.

While the Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse hit 254.04 mph (408.84 km/h) in 2013, Bugatti believes the Mistral will easily overcome it. Emilio Scervo, Bugatti Rimac Chief Technology Officer, said the new roadster has been engineered to reach an impressive speed of at least 261 mph (420 km/h). With top speed mode on, the rear wing will automatically adjust to the minimum number of rakes to reduce drag and make the Chiron’s top open as smooth as possible.

The Mistral takes design cues from not only the Chiron it is based on, but other specialty derivatives such as the Centodieci, Divo, and the one-of-a-kind La Voiture Noire. Additionally, the X-shaped Bolide taillights have corresponded in the new roadster to make the derrière perhaps the most spectacular angle of the 1,577 horsepower roadster.

The last W16 road car Bugatti has ever made, the Mistral is limited to just 99 units. Everything has been talked about despite the tantalizing price tag of €5 million net. Deliveries to customers are slated to begin in 2024 when the French automaker will also begin shipping Bolide track-only vehicles to their rightful owners. The extreme flavors of Chiron are limited to 40 examples and are relatively cheaper, at “only” €4 million per pop.
