Lamborghini Has 18-Month Backlog On New Orders, At Speed For A Record Year

Times are still tough in the auto industry, but some manufacturers fared better than others. Lamborghini is in that group, though in this case, have better luck doesn’t really cover it. With nearly 8,000 sales already booked for 2022, the Italian supercar brand is currently on its way to record sales this year. And if you want a new Lambo, orders placed today won’t be filled until 2024.

In particular, Lamborghini recently reported 7,430 total sales during the first nine months of 2022. That’s an increase of 6.8 percent over last year, which incidentally stands as the best year to date for the company with 8,405 sales. Furthermore, Lamborghini says there’s currently an 18-month backlog of new vehicle orders, so unless something drastic happens in the waning days of 2022, last year’s record is sure to drop.

It should come as no surprise that the Urus is the dominant raging bull in the Lambo lineup, from a sales standpoint. The SUV recorded 4,834 sales on its own through Q3 2022, accounting for more than half of the company’s total sales. This is a 7 percent year-over-year increase, but don’t count the Huracan. The V10 supercar had 2,378 buyers, far fewer than the Urus. But on a percentage basis, the sales of the Huracan are to the top even more at 11 percent compared to 2021. The balance of 2022 sales so far has gone to the Aventador, which ended production twice after Lamborghini lost a number of Ultimee trims in the sinking of the cargo ship Felicity Ace.

Lamborghini isn’t the only high-end automaker to record profits. Rolls-Royce set a 2021 record with 5,586 units sold. Ferrari also set a record with sales of 11,155 last year, and through the third quarter of 2022 is on track to set another record with nearly 10,000 units shipped. Now that the Purosangue SUV has arrived, Ferrari could flirt with 15,000 annual sales next year.
