Experience What It’s Like To Drive A Mercedes-AMG One In This POV Video

With production limited to just 275 units, most people will never get the chance to drive a Mercedes-AMG One hypercar. This video satisfies that desire a bit by providing a first-person view of taking a machine around the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. The camera position even shows the top of the driver’s helmet, which makes the experience feel more realistic.

The AMG One sounds amazing, which makes sense because it has a Formula One engine. The turbocharged 1.6-liter V6 on its own makes 566 horsepower (422 kilowatts) and spins up to 11,000 rpm.

The four electric motors are another part of the powertrain. Two front-wheel power, one assists the combustion engine, and one assists the turbo. In total, the AMG One produces 1,049 hp (782 kW). While not shown in this video, an 8.4 kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery can power a car up to 11 miles (18 kilometers) on EV power alone.

The AMG One also looks embedded in the track. Again, this is what should happen. At a speed of only 31 miles per hour (50 kilometers per hour), the body produces no lift. There are active aero elements on the front, on the fenders and on the rear wing. The suspension is a push-rod arrangement with adjustable struts.

The Barcelona-Catalunya circuit has a long straight where the rider can release the AMG One. The hypercar can reach 62 mph (100 kph) in 2.9 seconds and 124 mph (200 kph) in 7.0 seconds. The top speed is 219 mph (352 kph).

In August 2022, the first production-spec AMG One was launched. The company assembles each one by hand at a facility in Coventry, England.

A spy video in August showed Mercedes evaluating the One at the Nürburgring. The clip raises the possibility the company is gearing up to bring the hypercar around the Nordschleife for a lap record attempt. The current fastest time is 6 minutes 43.0 seconds of the Porsche 911 GT2 RS with upgraded Manthey Racing components.
