When someone mentions Colin McRae, most people associate him with Subaru. However, McRae clinched the title by way of the Impreza in 1995. The Scottish rally champions also had several fruitful seasons with Subaru, finishing second in the 1996 and 1997 title races.

But McRae’s successful years weren’t just with Subaru. He also had several successful events with Ford while behind the wheel of the first-generation Focus. McRae came close again to a second title in 2001, and the car that helped him get to that point is now on sale.
This 2001 Ford Focus WRC (Y4 FMC) has many stories to tell. It made its competition debut during the Acropolis Rally that season. It won on the first outing and finished second in the Rally New Zealand. However, the 2001 season of this car ended after McRae drove spectacularly in the fourth special stage of the Great Britain Rally. The crash also ended McRae’s title hopes that year.
Despite the mess, Ford’s M-Sport rally team rebuilt the Y4 FMC and even competed in several rounds during the 2002 season. Despite never winning another rally, the car had a successful career in the UK in the BTRDA (British Trials and Rally Drivers Association) Series. After the car was retired from competition, it was returned to its 2001 livery and specs.
His post-retirement life mainly consisted of appearances at events such as the Goodwood Festival of Speed. But soon, the Y4 FMC could end up in a wealthy collector’s garage for around 300,000 to 350,000 pounds ($402,225 to $469,262 at current exchange rates). Per Silverstone Auctions, this competitively-ready car is “very easy to drive”. While not recommended for daily driving, future owners can say they have a legend rally winning car.
