Jeep Avenger Spy Test With Internal Combustion Engine

At the Paris Motor Show last month, Jeep revealed the full Avenger. Tied for sale in Europe, Japan, South Korea and other markets outside the US, this is the first all-electric Jeep, paving the way for automakers to plunge into the EV era. However, the model is not exclusively electric.

Buried deep within its press release, the Jeep Avenger 1st Edition 2023 is said to be also available with a turbocharged petrol engine. This is the first time we’ve seen an Avenger with an internal combustion engine, thanks to spy shots from Walter Veyr.

Smaller than the Jeep Renegade, the ICE-powered Avenger isn’t much different from the fully electric model except for two things: it doesn’t have an “e” badge on the grille and it has an exhaust. The spy test unit also lacks the yellow sticker normally seen on prototypes equipped with electric motors.

Jeep didn’t reveal any details about the non-electric Avenger. In fact, the automaker only mentions its availability once in a lengthy press release. What we know is only available in Italy and Spain, and pre-orders are now open until the end of this month for those interested.

As for the EV, Jeep has detailed the Avenger 2023’s powertrain setup. It’s powered by a single motor that produces up to 154 horsepower (115 kilowatts) and 191 pound-feet (260 Newton-meters) of torque.

This electric motor takes the juice from a 54-kWh lithium-ion battery pack that is good for 400 kilometers (249 miles) in a combined WLTP cycle. If used in the city alone, it is okay to cover a distance of 550 kilometers (342 miles), with 20 to 80 percent recharge capability in 24 minutes when using a 100 kW connection.
