Infiniti Issues Warning To Dealers Over Bogus Fees On Lease Buyouts

[ad_1]

It seems we hear about disputes between car manufacturers and dealers almost every day. Hyundai recently issued a warning about excessive pricing, joining Ford and General Motors in tackling fraudulent dealer practices that could hurt automakers. The latest is from Infiniti, but this time the focus is not on taking money haphazardly before buying. It’s about a cash grab after the contract is signed.

We first heard about this through Live Car, citing a letter from Infiniti Financial Services to dealers. The subject of the letter details several malicious acts against people who try to buy the Infiniti vehicles they rent. Instead of sticking to the terms outlined in the contract, some dealers allegedly added new fees or refused to honor pre-set purchase prices. Apparently, some dealers even refuse the purchase completely, forcing the renter to start a new lease or buy another car. And we all know what the market is like today for both new and used cars.

Motor1.com contacted Infiniti for additional information about this situation, which has reportedly led to numerous complaints to the Better Business Bureau, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, and the state Attorney General’s office. A spokesperson confirmed that the company’s financial arm had indeed contacted the dealer.

“Infiniti clients who have financed their leases with Infiniti Financial Services (IFS) may decide to purchase their vehicle at a pre-determined purchase option price contained in their lease plus any incidentals required to complete the transaction as stated in the agreement,” it said. Infiniti in an email statement to Motor1.com. “We expect Infiniti Reseller to honor the lease agreement. Additional information for IFS tenants is available at https://www.infinitiusa.com/owners/benefits/end-of-lease.htmland clients can also call IFS at 800-887-5159 with questions about their purchase options.”

Infiniti’s efforts to quell unscrupulous dealers also extend to third-party deals on leasing and financing, with the automaker saying they expect dealers to honor those contracts as well.
