2022 Cadillac Escalade Headlamps May Turn On In Daytime

The Cadillac Escalade 2022 has a handy feature that detects ambient light and automatically activates the Daytime Running Lamps (DRL) or the vehicle’s main headlights, depending on the current light level. However, some 2022 Cadillac Escalade units can activate the main headlights in daytime conditions, not just the Daytime Running Lights. Fortunately, the luxury brand has identified the cause of this annoying problem and released a fix to prevent it from continuing.

As per the recently released GM service bulletin, the main headlights on the 2022 Cadillac Escalade sometimes activate during the day when the light mode switch is set to Automatic. This problem is caused by an error in the programming of the Body Control Module (BCM), which is responsible for monitoring the ambient light sensor signal circuit, and activating the main headlights or Daytime Running Lamps.

This issue can be resolved with a software update for BCM, which can be done via an Over-The-Air (OTA) update. Owners of the affected Cadillac Escalades were instructed to keep an eye on their vehicle’s infotainment system for a notification indicating that an update is available. The ambient light sensor does not need to be replaced to fix the problem.

The 2022 Cadillac Escalade uses a body-on-frame T1 vehicle platform and is offered with two engine options. The first is a naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 petrol engine (production code L87), which is capable of 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. This engine is standard on the Escalade, and models with this bike wear the 600 badge on the elevator doors. Meanwhile, a 3.0L I6 turbodiesel engine (production code LM2) is optional. It’s rated at 277 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. Models with this engine sport the 600D badge on the rear, and both engines are mated to a Cadillac 10-speed automatic transmission.
