Chevy Cavalier Ice Shanty Is Your Dream Mobile Fishing Shack

Ice fishing often requires dragging a hut on the ice for protection from the elements. The revamped 1996 Chevrolet Cavalier tried to simplify this process by combining a car and an ice hut into one device.

This Chevy Cavalier ice shed is currently for sale on Facebook Marketplace, and is located in Maine. The only remaining part of the Chevrolet is part of the front clip, with everything from the A-pillar in the back replaced by the shack. The fenders are gone, revealing chained tires, and a piece of wood has replaced the front bumper. However, the hood and headlights are still there, and there is a strange wooden box between the car and the hut.

Inside, there is a wood stove with a chimney sticking out from the front. The storage rack is above it. The vehicle controls stick out of the wall, with the instrument panel attached to the makeshift wooden dashboard. The shift lever is mounted sideways on the floor. The photos don’t show any controls for the gas or brake pedals, but there’s something incomprehensible attached near the steering wheel. The images provided don’t show off the entire interior space, including the drop-down tables, radio, and more.

The car is not legal on the highway. There’s no photo of the back, and we doubt there’s room for a license plate. It also looked like the back of the hut was right on the ground, and the design wouldn’t fly on public roads. The car was running and speeding when its owner parked it two years ago, but it is not known if it is still operating today. The seller asked $2,000 for it.

Cars have served as mobile homes in the past, so turning them into a portable ice hut seemed natural. It may not be the most fun vehicle to drive, but driving isn’t the ultimate goal. It is designed to keep the occupants warm, the fish cool, and the outside elements spoil a great day of fishing. A wood stove, chairs and table provide all the ambiance needed.
