BMW Might Have Teased a Slim Electric Sports Car Coming Soon

BMW, like almost every automaker today, has plans to go all-electric. The folks from Munich already have those plans in mind, but a recent presentation from BMW may contain a secret hideout in plain sight. Or at least, under cover in plain sight.

The secret looks like some kind of sports car. today shown a presentation from BMW recently, relating to the X1 and iX1 for Europe. The presentation included a BMW product roadmap stretching to 2030, in which the automaker expects more than 50 percent of global sales to be battery electric vehicles. That includes companies under the BMW umbrella, namely Rolls-Royce and Mini, but direct your attention to the lower right of the roadmap image at the top of this article.

Four vehicles are under the covers, three of which look like SUVs or sedans. At the very bottom, we have a fourth vehicle and it’s like no other. From what we can see, it’s low to the ground with a slanted nose and flared fenders. The steeply sloped windshield connects to the low roof, but that’s all we can see. The body lines certainly don’t match that of an SUV, or even a coupe-style crossover. And is it a coincidence that the three vehicles above are wearing covers with the same color and motif as the M?

To be clear, so far we haven’t heard anything related to a possible sports car or all-electric supercar from BMW. However, the German brand is pushing hard into the electric world with several models already available. Of course, the new BMW XM has just debuted to become the company’s king of horsepower, offering 735 hp in its upcoming Red Label edition next year. It’s the first dedicated M vehicle since the M1, but at three tons, it’s also very heavy.

Something lighter with such strength might be hidden under the covers. Or, it could be something simpler, maybe an EV follow-up to the i8 hybrid? In any case, it may be some time before we know what’s on BMW’s electric mind.
