Lexus has some new photos of the upcoming RZ 450e electric crossover as part of the brand announcement for 2021 global sales. The EV has a full debut this spring.

Additional photos give us a better look at the sides and rear of the RZ 450e. In profile, this vehicle bears a striking resemblance to the Toyota bZ4x and Subaru Solterra which share the same e-TNGA platform (see comparison below). The Lexus has a black C-pillar which makes the design look a bit slimmer.

At the rear, the Lexus has a completely different style from the upcoming Toyota and Subaru electric crossovers. Instead of the two prongs of the taillights circling the sides, the RZ 450e has a simple and elegant strip leading to the rear fender. There is also an outlet in the fascia behind the tire.

Lexus previously only showed the front of the RZ 450e. It features a new look on the brand’s spindle grille which has openings at the bottom and vertical inlets on each side. The sharp crease in the nose and the pointed shape of the headlights give the vehicle an aggressive look.

There are no images of the Lexus EV’s interior yet. The marque’s premium position likely means there will be better technology and better materials than products from Toyota and Subaru.

The RZ 450e’s powertrain remains a mystery. The bZ4X and Solterra are available with a total of 215 horsepower (160 kilowatts) of electric motors powering each axle, but that output seems a bit low for a Lexus to us.

We also don’t have any details on the RZ 450e’s battery. The bZ4X is available in a 72.8 kilowatt-hour package.

Lexus shipped 760,012 vehicles in 2021, 6 percent more than in 2020. North America is the brand’s largest market with about 332,000 units in volume there. China is in second place with about 227,000 shipments.

Lexus also saw a new record for electric vehicle deliveries of about 260,000 vehicles, which is up 10 percent over last year. By 2030, the company will drive all of its sales from fully electric vehicles in Europe, North America and China.
