GM Expects More Than 850,000 2026 Super Cruise Subscriptions

GM continues to ramp up its hands-free driver assistance business, and the numbers show measurable traction. The automaker now expects to surpass 850,000 paid Super Cruise subscriptions by the end of 2026, according to its Q1 earnings presentation released on April 28th.

The numbers reflect rapid growth in GM’s digital services segment, where Super Cruise plays a central role. Customer volume increased approximately 70 percent year over year, supported by increased vehicle availability and stable customer adoption after a trial period. GM added about 50,000 new Super Cruise customers in the first quarter alone.

Management is positioning the system as a key revenue driver within its broader connected services strategy. “Super Sailing [is] major growth catalyst,” the company stated in its investor materials, noting that recognized revenue from the feature increased approximately 85 percent year-over-year in Q1. General Motors remains on track to generate nearly $400 million in Super Cruise revenue by 2026.

Implementation depends in part on conversion rates after the initial prepaid period. GM reports that attachment rates after the standard three-year inclusion window are in the 30 to 40 percent range. The metric shows that most customers see continued value in the system, although it also suggests there is room for improvement as competitors expand similar offerings.

This growth aligns with GM’s broader push to monetize software and connectivity across its product lineup. OnStar, the umbrella platform that powers these services, ended the quarter with deferred revenue of $5.8 billion, up more than 50 percent year over year. The company expects to reach a total of 13 million OnStar subscribers by the end of the year.

Executives continue to emphasize execution on both hardware and software. Wider deployment of Super Cruise on Chevy, GMC, Cadillac, and Buick vehicles has increased exposure, while ongoing development aims to expand capabilities and geographic coverage.

GM’s framing is straightforward: software-based features like Super Cruise are no longer peripheral. This is important for the company’s long-term margin expansion and revenue mix strategy. If subscription growth remains at its current rate, these services will represent long-lasting, high-margin vehicle sales, not just special add-ons.
