GM Will Start Selling Cars In Turkey Again

Sabah Daily reported that General Motors will resume vehicle sales in Türkiye. The Detroit automaker signs a distribution agreement with Tur Oto A.Ş., a local company based in Istanbul. The deal covers four brands: Cadillac, Chevrolet, GMC and Corvette, treating the sports cars as their own brands. Türkiye last saw a new Chevy model hit dealerships about ten years ago. Now GM is back with a broader portfolio, targeting the premium market.

Tur Oto is responsible for sales, after-sales service, spare parts supply and warranty. The company’s chief executive, Turan Mutlu, did not mince his words. “It is a great honor for us to bring Chevrolet back to Türkiye and officially introduce the Cadillac, GMC and Corvette brands to Turkish customers,” said Mutlu. He added, “This agreement is not just a new business partnership; it is also a strong reflection of Tur Oto’s legacy of trust for more than half a century and its vision for the future. By combining General Motors’ global strength with our company’s local expertise and corporate experience, we are starting a new era in Türkiye’s premium automotive market.”

GM exited Turkey in the mid-2010s, a period when the company was winding down its unprofitable international operations. The Detroit giant is shifting its focus to North America, China and South Korea. Türkiye, with its complicated import tariffs and volatile currency exchange rates, has fallen out of favor. But the calculus has shifted. Luxury and high-performance vehicles maintain healthier margins. Cadillac is looking to expand its reach beyond its traditional markets. The Corvette, now a mid-engined exotic car, is attracting global attention. GMC, long a North American mainstay, is testing unfamiliar waters.

But the agreement has been signed. GM is going back to selling cars in Türkiye – not cheap, mass-market Opels or Daewoos, but Cadillacs, Corvettes and others.
