Audi A2 Officially Returns: First Teaser

Posted on
  • The Audi A2 E-Tron debuts this fall.
  • It will serve as the brand’s entry-level EV.
  • The new A2 will most likely double up with the Volkswagen ID. New

The rumors were true. Audi is starting to drop the “A2” name for its new model. This time, it will not feature a petrol or diesel engine, as its moniker will be changed to a pure electric car. Known by its full name Audi A2 E-Tron, the upcoming EV will indirectly replace the A1 supermini and Q2 subcompact crossover.

Coinciding with the name confirmation, the first teaser image was shown today during the company’s annual conference. Despite not revealing much, the reborn A2 is expected to be a more luxurious version of the Volkswagen ID.3. Not the current electric hatchback from Wolfsburg, but the upcoming facelift that will adopt the ID. Neo’s name.

While the VW variant is a traditional hatchback, the Audi variant will also incorporate crossover traits and even resemble the original A2 minivan from the early 2000s. We’ll finally see the entry-level EV this fall, before it goes on sale in Europe at the end of the year or early 2027. Production will take place in Ingolstadt.

The Q2 E-Tron is not the only debut model that Audi has prepared for this year. During today’s conference, Four Rings also confirmed plans to unveil the next-generation Q7 and the first-ever Q9. There’s also a “reimagined” Q4 E-Tron, which might be a fancy term for a mid-cycle facelift. The mainstream VW ID.4 also got a bit of a makeover this year, so it makes sense for Audi to update its tuxedo-wearing counterpart.

What’s worrying is that Audi hasn’t said anything about the A8. As we exclusively reported, order books have closed in Germany. There’s still no sign of a direct replacement, which suggests that a new flagship isn’t coming any time soon.
