Market Needs ‘Stabilization’ Before Entering US

Last July, Volkswagen Group announced it would delay the launch of the Cupra in the United States. It was planned that this car would be available in 2030 with a series of hybrid, plug-in hybrid and pure gas-fueled cars, but “ongoing challenges” and “ever-evolving market dynamics” forced the carmaker to postpone these plans. However, this does not necessarily cancel it.

In an interview with EdmundsCecilia Taieb, Cupra’s head of global communications, said, “We are delaying when we will be there.” He didn’t give a timeline for when that could happen, but the brand is still eager to enter the American market.

Cupra CEO Markus Haupt told the publication that it would re-evaluate entering the US “when things stabilize a bit” on the geopolitical front. Meanwhile, it is working to expand its presence in the Middle East. Its expansion in the US is something the brand “could use in the future.”

Cupra announced in early 2025 that it would partner with Penske to open 20 showrooms. A few months later, they announced they would delay its launch in the United States.
