Jeep Grand Cherokee Launched In Europe With 380 Horsepower

One of the few American SUVs sold in Europe is being updated for 2022 as Jeep is once again selling the Grand Cherokee on the Old Continent. The midsize SUV was initially launched in an L version with a long wheelbase in January 2021 before the standard model joined the company’s portfolio in the US in late September. This is the two-line model that the Euro folks will get, and only in 4xe flavours.

Yes, Jeep has decided to sell this new Grand Cherokee by the pool side with just a plug-in hybrid powertrain. Just like its American cousin, this car combines a 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine with an electric motor for a total output of 375 horsepower (280 kilowatts) and 470 pound-feet (637 Newton-meters) of torque.

We will remind you that this US-spec SUV is also offered with a naturally aspirated 3.6-liter V6 engine and a 5.7-liter V8. However, this has no place in Europe where not only are there huge taxes on large capacity engines, but emission regulations are slowly but surely killing off big, thirsty engines.

As a result, the PHEV will represent the only option and promise to offer a pure electric range of up to 32 miles (51 kilometers). As expected, the numbers are slightly higher than the 25 miles (40 kilometers) Jeep has quoted for the Grand Cherokee 4xe in the US where tests are more realistic than WLTP standards.

Seen here is the Exclusive Launch Edition that comes with all the proverbial bells and whistles. It rides on large polished 21-inch wheels and can be ordered exclusively online until March 30. You will still need to visit your dealer to complete the order and choose from one of the following four colors: Velvet Red, Baltic Grey, Bright White , or Diamond Black. All will share a black roof and chrome accents.

In addition to the usual full digital instrument cluster and 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment, the Grand Cherokee Exclusive Launch Edition gets a 10.25-inch screen for the front passenger only. To sweeten the pot, Jeep features a 19-speaker, 950-watt McIntosh sound system, wireless charging, and customizable LED ambient lighting.

It’s available to order starting today in Italy, France, Germany, Spain, United Kingdom, Belgium, Austria, Luxembourg and the Netherlands. The Exclusive Launch Edition will set you back a hefty €94,000 in Italy where the BMW X5 xDrive45e starts at €84,000 before you start adding options. That makes the US-spec Grand Cherokee 4xe pretty cheap, at $59,495.
