BMW M5 CS vs Porsche Panamera Turbo S in German Four-Door Drag Race

In the realm of performance sedans, the BMW M5 CS is among the most powerful out there. Germany’s four-door is hard to beat, numbers-wise, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t worthy rivals.

We’re talking about the Porsche Panamera Turbo S and while we know that a major update is coming to the model for the 2024 model year, the model out today is still a very powerful engine. Let Porsche prove its worth in a straight line with this drag race versus the British BMW M5 CS carwow.

Both German sedans are beasts in terms of numbers, but BMW has the definitive advantage over Porsche.

The M5 CS, powered by a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8, can produce up to 626 horsepower (467 kilowatts) and 553 pound-feet (750 Newton-meters) of torque. That much power pulls all the sedan’s weight as much as 4,023 pounds (1,825 kilograms).

Meanwhile, the Panamera Turbo S also uses a twin-turbo V8 engine but with a slightly smaller displacement of 4.0 liters. That makes for a bit less power though it’s important to note that the Porsche makes substantially more torque at 605 lb-ft (820 Nm).

The Panamera needs some extra oomph down the line, as it is substantially heavier than a BMW at 562 lbs (255 kg) or about three people in weight. In a contest where weight matters a lot, this is not good news for the Porsche sedan.

That said, this drag race drops to the starting line, with results varying depending on how well the car launches. But in the end, one of them came out on top after three tries. Which one do you think won? Let us know what you think in the comments section below.
