At the end of the Aragon qualifying Marc Marquez is 13th: the Honda champion has to deal with reality.
Marc Marquez has to deal with reality in his first qualifying after the last stop for the operation on his humerus. He narrowly missed the jump in Q2 and will start 13th in Aragon GP, what until recently was one of his talisman circuits. He also remedied a fall in FP3, softened the blow with his right arm, immediately got up to run to the pits and take the spare bike.
He had already put it in estimate the day before the fall, inevitable with one RC213V which lacks feeling at the front and requires a series of interventions before being able to return to the gold levels of the past. The positive note is that his arm responds well, even if he feels some discomfort in the morning, while in the afternoon everything goes well. For the race, he has no objective but to reach the finish line: “I believe we have seen reality today“.
Marc Marquez out of Q2
At the end of the first day of free practice Marc Marquez he had finished in the top-10, less than 4 tenths of a second behind the best time. But when the others picked up the pace, the Honda champion couldn’t do the same. “I’ve heard rivals say I’m on the podium. Expectations can be very high, but I know my reality and today we have seen where we are“.
Hitting a place in the top ten would already be a good result for the multiple champion of the Honda. The focus will be on the three contenders for the world title, Bagnaia, Quartararo and Espargarò. To see Marc Marquez on the podium again, we will have to wait a little longer: “The arm gets tired, but the important thing is that these discomforts subside and that muscle mass increases. Today I am happy with the mental reaction, when I fell I was not afraid to put my arm on the ground“.
The media attention is focused above all on him, but the Honda champion invites us to keep our feet on the ground. “Expectations are high for many people, but that’s where you need to know how to get out of it, think about yours, and be realistic. The ideal would be to go out, run away and win, but the reality is different“. The foundations must be laid for 2023 and Marc Marquez is already working on new aluminum swingarm from Kalex. To think about the future, you have to lose something in the results of the present.
