C7 Corvette Driver Breaks Guinness World Record For Reverse Driving

With more than 450 horses produced in its base form and the hundredth sprint in under 4 seconds, the previous-generation Chevy Corvette wasn’t a slow car. Of course, we talk about forwarding moves but as it turns out, the story is the same when it comes to the opposite.

That’s mainly in the hands of Scot Burner, who recently earned an official citation from Guinness World Records as the man to have done the “fastest mile in reverse” in a Corvette C7. For the record, Burner completed a mile run in 1 minute 15.18 seconds at Bowling Green, Kentucky on June 15, 2022.

According to Guinness, Burner knew he could beat the record by knowing that what stood was something he had already beaten but unofficially. So he did what rational people do with extra time on his hands – try and beat the record officially, and bag the Guinness World Records title. The effort was completed at NCM Motorsports Park.

The Corvette C7 used by Burner has a manual transmission. The previous Vette he tried before had an automatic gearbox, and was limited to about 40 miles per hour (64 kilometers per hour) in reverse.

In case you were wondering, the Burner hits 54 mph (87 km/h) in reverse with the C7 Corvette. He hasn’t tried running on the latest mid-engine Corvette C8. The fastest speed he’s ever had looking back was 56 mph (90 km/h), which was done on a Kia Carnival rental.

Burner’s passion for reverse driving is seen on a YouTube channel called Always Reverse. He doesn’t have a record-breaking run at NCM Motorsports Park but he does have a record doing an early test on a C7 Corvette doing 54 mph. You can watch it in the video embedded below.
