New Ford Mondeo Spied In Michigan Again, But It’s Wearing Plates Now

[ad_1]

Ford launched the all-new Mondeo in China about a month ago. Unfortunately for mid-size sedan buyers in the US, there don’t appear to be any plans to sell the fifth-generation model outside of China. Ford even made it official that the car would not make it to Europe according to our friends from Germany’s Motor1.com.

But weeks before its premiere, the redesigned Mondeo made a surprise appearance in Michigan. At the time, we said we shouldn’t expect this car to arrive in showrooms because Ford has left the sedan market in the US. However, the sedan reappeared with reader Kyle Swensen, photographing him sitting in the parking lot.

We’re grateful for Kyle’s submission, and the photos might give us some clues about the possibility of the car being offered here. That said, the model appears to be the same one that was spied on in January. It even has a Chinese badge on the trunk lid like the last published set of photos. However, this time the sedan uses a factory plate.

Does this mean Mondeo is coming to the US? Not necessarily. This isn’t the first time a car not destined for the US has worn a factory plate. Likely, it was undergoing some sort of evaluation. It is not known what type of testing Mondeo carried out or its purpose on US soil. Either way, don’t get your hopes up for this model joining the North American lineup.

Changan Ford has yet to release full details of the redesigned Mondeo. However, we do know that this car is slightly longer and wider than the previous model by 2.48 inches (63 mm) and 0.9 inches (23 mm, respectively). The badge on the car hints that one of the engine options includes a 2.0-liter Ecoboost that produces 245 horsepower (180 kilowatts). The all-new Mondeo uses the C2 platform that underpins models like the Escape, Bronco Sport and Maverick.
