Lending a motorcycle: what is there to know? Here’s what you risk in some cases!
The loan of the motorcycle – or any other means – is an action that happens very often. It might sound strange, but if the loan were to be extended for a period of more than 30 days, then the risk of incurring very high penalties is very high. What is there to know? How to comply if the motorcycle loan is to be extended? Here are all the details!
On November 3, 2014 the new Highway Code came into force. Among the many regulations and rules, there is also that relating to driving vehicles with motor (car, motorcycle or other) in the name of third parties. Practically, we certify that driving a motorbike in the name of a cohabiting family member is always allowed and for an unlimited time, as long as you are part of the family status of the owner of it! What if you are not part of the family status? If you lend the motorcycle to another relative or a friend?
In these cases, the loan of the motorbike is allowed, but exclusively for a time limit of 30 days! In order to “keep alive” the loan, in fact, it will be necessary to write the name of the “new” person on the vehicle registration certificate. It becomes very important to perform this move. In fact, in the event of failure to update, the risk of having to pay very high fines is just around the corner.
How much is the fine? You can go from a minimum fine of 728 euros up – even – to a maximum of 3,000 and 626 euros! It is absolutely advisable to comply and add the name on the registration certificate!
