DeLorean Alpha2 Could Go Into Production Following Strong Demand

DeLorean is officially back in the auto business after a long hiatus, and the first line of business is launching the Alpha5 300 miles. However, the EV could be followed by a car equipped with a combustion engine to echo the original DMC-12 with its Peugeot-Renault-Volvo V6 engine. The reborn company had envisioned an alternate universe where a 130-horsepower sports car with gullwing doors was followed in the 1990s by the Alpha2.

A fictional concept launched in late July, the curvaceous low coupe is said to have a V8 engine with unknown technical specifications. After its debut, DMC received requests for the Alpha2 from people who wanted to buy the original. It looks like it really could happen as the boss of the company Joost de Vries said upper teeth magazine a small number of road cars under consideration:

“We have so many requests for [Alpha2] that’s going to be made, so we’re probably going to do a very small run.”

DMC chief Honcho went on to say “The Alpha2 was born out of a DeLorean project called the DMC-24 which was never produced. It’s a barchetta, open-top, V8-powered coupe, and it’s a logical evolution for the DMC-12.” Joost de Vries explained in his interview with TG the reborn automaker commissioned Italdesign to draw a sports car that would embody the 1990s, but with a modern twist to keep up with the times.

Let’s not forget that DMC has also revealed the concept of Alpha3 and Alpha4 as part of its alternate timeline. The former was envisioned as a large electric sedan in the mid-2000s while the latter was an SUV from 2013, complete with a hydrogen drivetrain. As this fictional concept unfolds, we also see the aforementioned DMC-24, the original car from the original company that never saw the light of production day.

As for the Alpha5, the four-seater coupe with large gullwing doors and a drag coefficient of 0.23 will go on sale in 2024. Only 88 cars will be made as a nod to the DMC-12’s time-traveling capabilities that it achieved at that pace behind for the Future franchise. . Also written by Italdesign, the all-wheel-drive EV with a 100-kWh battery promises to hit 60 mph (96 km/h) in 2.99 seconds and 88 mph (142 km/h) in 4.35 seconds before hitting a max of 155. mph (250 km/h).

Pricing details have not been disclosed, but all estimates point to a starting price of over $100,000.
