Next-Gen Ford Transit Courier City Spy Van With New Front-End Design

While Ford’s small van plans in the US are developing, things are different in Europe, where the automaker just launched the 2022 Tourneo Connect. The Transit Courier, also known as the Tourneo Courier, is placed under Transit/Tourneo Connect in Blue Oval’s European lineup. It uses the same platform as the Fiesta, debuted almost a decade ago, and a next-generation replacement is finally in development.

The new spy photo captures the city-sized van covering most of its exterior with camouflage wrap that fits snugly with the front fascia partially exposed. The two front grilles are covered alongside the headlights, but many of the bumpers are also visible, including the fog lamps located on the outer edge of the face. The rest of the van has the segment’s signature boxy design, but it’s not final and will have to be tweaked before it goes into production.

The Tourneo Courier currently shares the platform with the smaller Fiesta, but it’s unclear if the new model will continue that partnership. The van in the spy shots looks a little bigger than the current model, and the front-end styling looks like a Ford Puma. The headlights have the same shape but the interior is different, even the fog lamps look like they are in the same position between the two vehicles. The Courier’s exposed front fascia also features a touch of style similar to that of the Puma.

The new Tourneo Courier can ride on the modified Puma platform. The photos reveal the van with five lug wheels, up from four on the current model and the previous generation Fiesta. Borrowing credence to the idea that a new van could have a Puma underpinning is that Ford plans to start producing new light commercial vehicles at the same plant as the small crossover starting next year. Ford has yet to confirm what vehicle it will be, but this new van fits the bill.

Powertrain details are a mystery, but customers should expect petrol, diesel and electric options. The ICE variant will debut sometime next year. A fully electric version is possible, but it won’t break down until 2024. US customers shouldn’t expect this little van to hit our showrooms. It’s too small for American tastes, and we prefer Puma.
