Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT Facelift Spying Up Close on the Highway

This special spy video featuring the Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT test vehicle actually serves two purposes. The obvious goal is to offer a preview of the changes coming to the super SUV, which at first glance seem a bit small. However, that’s another purpose of this video – to show how clever Porsche is with its use of black bands to hide the bigger changes.

Let’s discuss the first point. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen the facelifted Cayenne come out in the top-of-the-range Turbo GT trim. In that case, it’s also not the first time we’ve seen it up close. Debuting only in 2021, Porsche has a fast SUV that’s fast-tracked for updates, and easy on the eyes with Taycan-themed headlights. In addition to changes to the internal structure, the lamp housing will be slightly shrunk and adopt a more square appearance. Porsche tried to disguise it with tape around the lens, making it look bigger than it really is.

The opposite can happen with the taillights. The red ribbon tries to emulate the current squiggly design of the center strip running across the back gate. A close look shows the new centerpiece might remove the notch, keeping the thicker light connecting the lens at the corner. There’s a black band in the mix too, applied liberally to the corner lenses to throw off the actual design. After all, it wouldn’t be a dramatic change from the current Cayenne.

As for the second goal of this video, he managed to capture two prototypes crashing at a slow speed. Luckily for us, the camera stayed on the front fascia for quite some time and it revealed many black band around the big corner vent. In fact, there might also be some black wrap in there, hiding a new body line or even a smaller side scoop right in front of the fender flares. It’s something you probably wouldn’t notice if you weren’t close in stop-and-go traffic, and with the black-coated cover of the prototype, you wouldn’t even notice anything different.

So we know the upcoming Cayenne facelift will include more than just updated headlights, but when will it arrive? The Turbo GT probably won’t be revealed until some time after the other Cayenne models, but it could come as a 2023 or 2024 model.
