Ford Mustang and Mach-E Go Darker with Night Pony Package

Posted on
  • The 2022 Ford Mustang and 2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E get the Nite Pony appearance package.
  • The kit adds dark details like black badges, exterior trim, and rims, but the Mach-E gets a few other unique pieces.
  • We don’t know how much the Nite Pony Mustang will cost, but it will be available this fall.

UPDATE 08/22/2022: Ford confirmed that the Nite Pony was chosen as the name for the Mustang’s new look package, beating out Alastor, Shadowmare, and Shadow Stallion from suggestions requested online in early June. Ford also confirmed the ’23 Mach-E Nite Pony package includes black front and rear bumpers and lower cladding, with the Premium trim level sporting 19-inch rims and GT Performance sporting the 20s. It has also been confirmed that the regular Mustang Nite Pony has a black painted roof and 19-inch wheels.

For those who want a Mustang with a darker feel, Ford will soon be offering an appearance package to address that. Called the Nite Pony, it was designed to make the 2022 Mustang pony car and the 2023 Mustang Mach-E electric SUV look even more sinister. However, we have to admit, the name Nite Pony sounds adorable.

On June 1, Ford announced a black accent package for the current Mustang’s final model year (the new generation S650 handlebar will arrive on September 14). At that point, Ford started requesting shipments for unnamed packages, and it seemed that the Nite Pony was the winner. What’s interesting, though, is that the automaker on June 22 also filed a trademark for “Mustang Dark Horse” in the US and in other countries, so it remains to be seen if that will come to fruition as well.

Since Ford hasn’t announced any official details about the new Nite Pony edition, we’ll have to wait to find out if the Mustang Dark Horse is the Nite Pony or if it’s something else entirely. Until then, we can only delete photos posted today on the company’s media site which give us a pretty good idea of what to expect with Nite Ponies. They have various black or dark badges, exterior trim, and rims. Does the kit include interior changes? We can’t say because there are no photos of the cabin.

What we can say is that the package appears to be only available for the 2022 Mustang coupe, with a close-up shot of the “GT” badge and the “5.0” model V-8, painted black of course. We can also see shots of the black “Mustang” logo on the front grille and glossy black five-spoke alloy wheels that appear to have a unique design.

The Mustang Mach-E 2023 will also receive the Nite Pony package, with images showing the all-wheel-drive and GT Performance Premium trim versions. The former is shown in black, from the paint to the wheels. Unlike the Mustang, which uses natural gas, the front and rear logos on the Mach-E Premium look white with stripes instead of black. The front badge on the GT Performance is black with white stripes and features a flaming silhouette.

We don’t know how much the Nite Pony package costs. But the caption for the photo on Ford’s media site suggests it will be available starting this fall.
