The Mini Aceman concept vehicle debuted almost a month ago, but it’s already showing pretty noticeable changes. That’s especially true if you’re one of the millions of Pokémon fans around the world, and if you attend this year’s Gamescon 2022, you’ll be able to see this surprising upgrade firsthand. Say hello to the Mini Concept Aceman now equipped with … Pokemon Mode.
What exactly does this mean? We already know Mini gives the Aceman a tech interior with a large OLED screen in the center and lighting effects that project images throughout the cabin. In Pokemon Mode, the center screen starts with a Poke Ball that opens to reveal everyone’s favorite electric creature, Pikachu. And the sequences aren’t limited to the center screen either – Pokémon Mode projects a flash of lightning across the dash and ends up projecting more streaks of blue and yellow lightning outside the car.

Unfortunately for Pokemon fans, the Mini Concept Aceman is a one-off vehicle designed to highlight the future of the brand, both in terms of technology and design language. That means you won’t be able to buy a new Mini with a Pokémon-themed tweak anytime soon, but the automaker does offer a consolation prize. In addition to the full-size concept car, Mini will have a toy version of Aceman in the Pokémon guise at the event that Gamescon attendees can get their hands on. After all, the automaker is the main sponsor for the merchandising area.
Perhaps the big question is whether future Minis will eventually get some form of Pokémon mode. Of course there’s a huge following for the animated series that grew into a video game franchise, but for now, Mini is not clear on the matter.
“Gamification will play an increasingly important role in future Mini and offer a unique experience for our customers,” said Stefanie Wurst, head of Mini. “Working with Pokémon, the shared joy of the franchise brings together two iconic characters, who are the perfect match, along with millions of fans. This is how we reached a whole new target group at Gamescom 2022, as an event for modern fandom, gaming and culture. pop.”
The Mini Concept Aceman with its new Pokémon Mode will be showcased at Gamescon 2022 in Cologne, Germany from August 24-28. For those looking for a little more action driving in their automotive game, check out the Rambling About Cars podcast on the racing sim, available below.
