Lotus embarked on an exciting journey to gradually transform its product line into a range of battery-powered sports cars. The Elise, Exige, and Evora are no longer in production, and the company has even teased an entirely new electric vehicle for 2026 developed in collaboration with Renault’s Alpine. Now, the British company has also announced a new division that will be responsible for bespoke vehicles.
The Lotus Advanced Performance arm will be managed by Simon Lane, who has joined the company as division director coming from the Q by Aston Martin business with similar activities. Lotus believes this new department will take the manufacturer to the next level in its mission to become a global performance car brand.
Little is known about the new division so far, but Lotus explains it will have several different services in its portfolio. Available options will include an exclusive halo product under the Lotus brand, limited edition versions of existing models, highly personalized cars and race-focused engines. Apart from that, factory tours and a driving academy are also in the plans.
“I’ve always been a Lotus fan, and this has got to be one of the most exciting roles in the automotive industry today – a blank sheet of paper and the opportunity to launch an entirely new division in the world’s most ambitious car brand,” commented Simon Lane. “The LAP team and I had some fantastically innovative ideas with a very broad appeal, for Lotus fans young and old alike for those seeking unique experiences and collectible opportunities.”
The announcement of the formation of a bespoke division was accompanied by a teaser image depicting a massive spoiler on what looks like an open-top race car. There are no details on what this preview photo shows, though Lotus says it “hints an exciting future project.”
