VW Golf R With Broken Roof Looks In Traffic As If Nothing Happened

When you feel like you’ve seen it all, this short clip is here to remind us that life can still surprise us every now and then. Arguably this previous-generation Golf R had better days as rear visibility was largely blocked by the crumbling roof. We were curious to know what happened to the hot hatch as the underside of the vehicle seemed intact. Whatever went wrong, the car appeared to be in good mechanical condition.

Aside from the bent pillars and sagging roof, this all-paw compact performance engine looks untouched, although we can’t see if it has any damage to the front. The car was spotted on the streets of Barcelona in Spain and someone sitting in the passenger seat of the car in the back decided to capture the odd Golf R on camera. It’s safe to say that whoever got behind the wheel of a VW likely hoped he wouldn’t run into a police force.

While we can all agree that the new swoopy Scirocco coupe would be nice to have in the VW portfolio, that’s not the way to go. Getting the car back into shape would be quite expensive as we assume multiple airbags were deployed when the roof suddenly became a large piece of metal origami. Hopefully, the Golf R is still worth salvaging, although we’re concerned about the structural rigidity of the body after what must have been a violent impact.

From any plausible scenario we can think of, it falls off a bridge or a car trailer and ends up with the wheels facing the sky. People above Periodismo del Motor who sent us a tip trying to figure out what happened but ended up with buckwheat. We know the car was spotted in Vic, Catalonia, and it appears to be a facelifted Golf R Mk7.5 judging by the LED taillight graphics.
